A younger had on top of an elderly person's hand

West Virginia laws, as well as many other states, have requirements for reporting suspected nursing home abuse. Medical, dental, law enforcement and social workers are mandated to report suspected abuse. In addition, employees working at extended care facilities are also required to report suspected abuse of their residents.

These professionals are required to report any observed issues to the Department of Health and Human Services within 48 hours.

Your Responsibility

While these professionals are mandated to report issues, family members should still take an active role in their elderly patient’s care. Visit the facility often, on different days and at different times if possible. Be involved in your loved one’s care as much as possible.

If you suspect a loved one is being or has been abused, contact Tammy Bowles Raines for a free consultation. West Virginia law limits the timeframe for filing claims of negligence or wrongful death, so contact our office as soon as you suspect an issue.
